- not much to share tonight -
- just that we now know he will be in Memorial for 2 to 3 more days (for sure), because they want to get his Coumadin (blood-thinner) levels correct before they send him to rehab. I was sure hoping Mom would still be here when he got home to help me care for him. Again, we need to take one day at a time - having no idea yet about so many things.
I'm not sure when we will be consulting with the cardio surgeon from Sacramento, but we are sure praying that the surgery can be done using catheterization rather than open heart. That would really be a wonderful blessing for things to work out in that way.
Thank you to all of you for your prayers and comments and kind words and good wishes. They mean so much to us!! We feel so loved and supported, and that is a real boost at this time!

I find it quite amazing that we have experienced both heart catheterization and taking coumadin within our family circle, so we feel fully able to understand those two elements of your difficulties right now. As David is one of our very favorite people, it is somehow comforting not to have his treatment seem as ominous as it would otherwise. Although we know it is no thing to sneeze at, we are confident of modern medicines incredible advances,and our thoroughly modern Lord's love and care for your family, as already evidenced in this whole thing. Thinking of you all and saying how strange it is to be reading of the continuation of testing/headaches etc, while I had just been blessed by my husband with a special birthday dinner. Knowing how family and celebrations are so important to you, made it even more important. continuing to pray and believing that God will heal and give you the peace and grace you need for EACH moment. What can we do?

I phoned Evergreen Rehab and it seems they have mostly 60+ age patients. Modesto Rehab might be more suitable for David and they would welcome you for a short tour of their facilities.
The physical therapist who is currently seeing David knows David's level of care and would be a good person to ask for a recommendation. You can also talk to the discharge planner before it is time for David's actual discharge to help you prepare.
You might want to ask how long on average, a stroke patient stays in rehab. You might want to know how many hours a day a rehab would work with David. They might suggest 1-2 hours of occupational therapy in addition to 1-2 hours of physical therapy.
I will make more calls on Monday to Stanford and UCSF for you.
So good to see David making such great strides in his recovery.
