Long Time Coming

This is a milestone in my life, so, though it may be gauche I am going to post notes from my chalkboard today.
Today, for the first time in the 26 years since I learned it I had opportunity to teach
The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
Here is the proof (literally and figuratively!):TWENTY-SIX years later, I have FINALLY taught this!!

I usually use the overhead projector, but this called for the boards - ALL of them!

How fun!!! I'm so happy that you took a picture of this so I could enjoy your accomplishment... reminds me of days at Calvin only YOU were the one 'tormenting' the students this time! Very fun!!!!

Thanks for taking these photos! Zelda

Wow! I got comments on my math post! Yipee!

They did all stay, and I did wait until they left to take the pictures - and was also as gentle as I could be as I was teaching it - continuing to try to tie it in to the context and previous knowledge - continuing to refer back to the picture and make it as visual as possible. It seemed to go well, but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part! No, I have a good group of students.

The other possibility would have been doing something one professor I know of elsewhere does - fill up the boards before the students get there and then start lecturing, erasing and refilling the minute class begins! (My pictures are "after" - NOT "before!")\

You know, Cathy, back in our Calvin days I never would have imagined this day would come!! Remember the tears? But 26 years later, it has!! So I just had to record it! You and I go way back with this stuff. You know what I'm saying!
